Glenmark is recalling incorrectly packaged birth control pills from the US, less than one month after Pfizer took similar actions.
Some blister packs in the seven affected lots of norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol were rotated by 180 degrees, reversing the weekly tablet orientation. Taking the tablets in the order dictated by the faulty packages ‘could leave women…at risk for unintended pregnancy’, Glenmark said.
The recall comes less than a month after Pfizer withdrew 28 lots of an oral contraceptive in response to a blister packaging error. In both cases the packaging fault changed the recommended dosing regimen.
