Track and trace-focused TraceLink has acquired ROC IT Solutions, extending its scanning capabilities to the warehouse.

A TraceLink spokesperson said drug firms typically employ its serialisation technology at the packaging site.

“TraceLink’s solution is typically used by pharma companies at the packaging level and partner level, meaning the serial numbers are distributed by TraceLink at the packaging site, put onto the packaging by the line system/hardware and then will be digitally managed by TraceLink,” explained the spokesperson.

However, the firm said by incorporating ROC IT Solutions’ EdgeTRAC technology, it has expanded its scanning capabilities to the warehouse.

“From when a product is received until it ships, there are many processes that might require scanning, such as inquiries, container management, damages, picking, put-away and then shipping and receiving.”

“EdgeTRAC provides the software and hardware (scanning devices) that capture any movement or activity of serialised product within a warehouse,” we were told.

The spokesperson said EdgeTRAC software integrates with enterprise resource planning (ERP), serial number management, warehouse management systems (WMS) and other supply chain applications, to enable serialised label printing, receiving, shipping, returns, deactivation, aggregation and de-aggregation.

TraceLink did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.

TraceLink in the US

The acquisition increases TraceLink’s presence in the US, with a new office in Pittsford, New York, and boosts its workforce.

“All 24 ROC IT employees will join TraceLink,” the spokesperson told us.
