Obamacare tweaked, good news for pharmas
US insurers will cover more medicines under Obamacare according to a document published by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHSS) in the Federal Register earlier this week.

Under the proposed rule insurers can cover the same number of drugs per class as state benchmark plans, which usually offer more than the one drug per class that would have been required under original proposals issued in 2011.

The move will be welcomed by the pharmaceutical industry – because it means more branded drugs will be covered – and by various patient groups which have previously argued that the one drug per class regulation would have limited patient choice.
