Schenck Accurate, Malvern, PSL and Sturtevant have teamed up to create a “unique” new turnkey isolated milling suite which they say will wipe out unnecessary waiting times for high potency (HP) drug processing.

In an unusual move, the crew of processing and QA/QC (quality analysis and control) specialists pooled their capabilities to create the technology – named the ARTMiS – for one specific unnamed client.

The tech includes Sturtevant’s Micronizer jet mill, a Malvern Insitec particle size analyser, the Schenck AccuRate PureFeed feeder, all tied together under PSL's advanced containment unit and operated by one control panel.

The uptick? “To deliver a fully automated system for jet milling that offers exemplary process control for optimal manufacturing efficiency,” said a spokesperson in a statement.

“ARTMiS delivers a closely controlled, consistent product with minimal manual intervention, simultaneously maximising process throughput and reducing the need for manual analysis,” the spokesperson added.

Talking to in-PharmaTechnologist.com at this year’s Interphex in New York, Schenck Accurate’s business development manager Afshin Nayeri said the platform could cut the waiting times for analysis.

He said: “This equipment has a huge advantage for R&D. In most applications, your customer will take and mill a product in a batch at different rates, and when they’re done milling they send to a team to analyse it.

“From what I’ve heard it takes anywhere from three weeks to two months to get the results back. With this technology, you have everything you need to give you the analysis immediately and get you the results immediately.”

The firms now say they are now looking to work with more clients through the platform.

Jeff DeNigris, process systems sales manager at Malvern said: “What we’re offering is the engineering to integrate the equipment together.”
