Monosol Rx gets US patent for drug films

Delivery technology firm Monosol Rx has been grated a US patent for production of pharmaceutical films containing certain antiemetics, analgesics and antiabetics.

The patent, number 7,897,080, covers the combination of polymers like include carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose polyethylene oxide with actives such as buprenorphine, ondansetron, fentanyl and triptan.

CEO Mark Schobel claimed that the award makes MonoSol RX the leader in the pharmaceutical film sector and gives the firm “process protection for the manufacturing of single and multi-layer films delivering a wide range of drug classifications through buccal and sublingual administration."

The award follows just over a year​ after MonoSol received its last patent that covered a nanoparticle film drug delivery system for administering biologics.
