Mississippi, US has passed anti-counterfeiting legislation to give law enforcement the tools needed to tackle fake products.

Additional powers granted by the legislation include tools for the seizure and forfeiture of property. Adoption of the legislation has been welcomed by the International Trademark Association (INTA).

The sale of counterfeit goods is a serious problem, and the cost to Mississippi businesses can hinder the state’s economic growth. The new bill provides stronger protection from this threat”, said Alan Drewsen, executive director of INTA.

In November 2010 federal search warrants were issued in search of counterfeit pharmaceuticals in Mississippi.
