Mettler says in-line granulation monitoring can cut time to market

- Last updated on GMT

Mettler Toledo’s new in-line granulation monitoring tech may make in-process particle characterisation less of a grind.

The FBRM C35 Ex system, which was launched last month, enables drugmakers to monitor granule distribution during active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) production, allowing critical adjustments to be made earlier in the manufacturing process.

Mettler suggested that the ability to quickly match particle dynamics to processing conditions speeds time-to-market by controlling downstream flow, thereby ensuring consistent roller compaction and performance in dissolution testing.

In-line monitoring also fits with quality-by-design (QbD) requirements according to product manager Eric Hukkanen who said it “helps formulators and engineers seamlessly scale-up granulation batches from lab-scale to pilot-scale and then from pilot-scale to production.”
