Companies are maintaining their spending on quality control measures despite the challenging operating environment, according to Matthew Kopecky, product manager at Sparta Systems.

Sparta, which provides quality and compliance management systems, conducted a survey of quality managers that questioned how the economic downturn had affected their operations and what their main concerns are.

Kopecky explained to in-PharmaTechnologist at Interphex 2009 that 80 per cent of respondents reported that quality management budgets have avoided cutbacks. This could be because companies have concerns about liability and the effect on brand image that result from quality control issues.

In addition 81 per cent of respondents said that compliance with regulations is still the main driver of quality management initiatives.
