ForHealth Technologies has started production of its flagship robotic intravenous drug compounding device through contract manufacturer Delphi Medical Systems.
The first three completed IntelliFill iv systems were shipped to ForHealth's headquarters this month. The device is designed to mitigate the shortage of hospital pharmacists.
The IntelliFill iv automates the compounding and labelling of intravenous doses in syringes at speeds that can only be achieved through automated processes. By employing barcode scanning, vision systems and weight confirmation steps and by providing final products that are identified with barcodes, the system should lead to reduced medication errors, according to ForHealth.
Furthermore, by providing a Class 10 compounding environment, the system assures that the final intravenous product produced is of the highest quality, said the company. The system also promotes long-term hospital cost savings by preparing the final intravenous products in a syringe instead of an iv bag.
The machine can prepare up to 300 syringe-based dosages per hour with an accuracy rate of 0.6 micro liters-far more precise than its human counterparts.
"The partnership with Delphi Medical Systems guarantees that ForHealth's manufacturing requirements for at least the next three years can be handled," said the company in a statement.
