Mettler Toledo has introduced a new oxygen probe for use in the sterile operating conditions required in biotechnology and pharmaceutical processes. The company said that the new product is the only one in the world that conforms to the internationally recognised 3A sanitary certification.
Measurement of dissolved oxygen in an industrial process is used to control the oxygen concentration and thereby improve the yields, for example, cell cultures used to make proteins. In the pharmaceutical industry there is a high demand for hygienic design and traceability for validation purposes.
The InPro6800 saves operator time by allowing membrane changes through a one-step quick disconnect system, as well as traceability of all media-exposed stainless-steel components for validation purposes, said MT. The sensors are sterilisable and can withstand repeated CIP (cleaning in place) treatments, with smooth faces that make it difficult for microorganisms to adhere to their surfaces.
Other leading manufacturers of dissolved oxygen sensors include Thermo Russell, Metrohm, Emerson Process Management, Knick and Bioengineering.
