AstraZeneca will pay $520m to the US government to settle a federal investigation into the marketing of its blockbuster antipsychotic Seroquel.
According to an article in the New York Times, the investigation focused on whether or not the UK drug major had emphasised favourable research from trials of Seroquel and not adequately disclosed studies linking it to increase risk of diabetes.
AstraZeneca will make the payment and sign a “corporate integrity agreement” but will not face any criminal charges.
The firm told in-Pharmatechnologist that it would not comment on the NYT story and said it announced an agreement in principle with the US Attorney’s Office to resolve the investigations in its third quarter presentation last year.
