More evidence linking fake pharmaceuticals and organised crime emerged today with Dutch police seizing suspicious Viagra pills along with cocaine, MDMA and burglary tools.

The suspect erectile dysfunction pills were recovered during Operation Trivium 4, a week long campaign by police in five countries that resulted in the arrest of nearly 850 people suspected of human trafficking and using Europe’s road network to transport illicit goods.

The operation was co-ordinated by Europol – the European Union’s law enforcement agency – whose spokesman Christian Jechoutek said the swoop underlined the reach of the criminal gangs involved.

Criminals involved in these illicit activities are mobile and operate at a transnational level. Operation Trivium is a strong example of how cross-border policing achieves excellent results, and also demonstrates the determination of the main European actors to join forces to tackle crime across the EU.”
