Propofol found at Jackson’s home not part of recalled batch, says Teva

15-Jul-2009

Israeli generics giant Teva Pharmaceuticals says the vial of propofol found at Michael Jackson’s home does not belong to either of the batches covered by its recent recall.

Teva withdrew two lots of propofol, comprised of 57,620 vials, after tests suggested that bacterial contamination found in the product was responsible for the illness of 40 people in Florida, Arizona and Missouri..

The firm told the Associated Press that: “There is no apparent connection between the bacterial contamination that prompted the recall and Jackson's death on June 25.”

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has begun checking the manufacturing facility in Irvine, California where Teva makes the drug.
