International Specialty Products has extended its portfolio of polymer coatings with the launch of a new range – Advantia Preferred HS – intended as immediate-release films for oral solid dosage forms.

The coatings are based on a combination of polymers and plasticisers and can be applied in up to 35 per cent high-solids suspensions. High-solids coating formulations reduce coating process time and can be cheaper than other approaches. New Jersey, US-based ISP says its new range provide a smoother finish than other high-solids coating systems.

Studies have shown that the new coatings do not slow down tablet disintegration and dissolution, according to the firm.
