Particulate Systems (PS) and Surface Measurement Systems (SMS) have entered into a strategic collaboration drawing on their knowledge of using analytic equipment for the characterisation of particulate, porous and complex materials.

The companies believe their technologies and expertise can guide research and solve problems in production and quality control. By combining their capabilities and expertise PS and SMS hope to better serve customers and expand their global reach.

Under the terms of the agreement PS will gain exclusive distribution rights to key SMS products, including the DVS Dynamic Vapor Sorption Systems, in selected regions of the US, plus South and Central America and the Middle East.

DVS Dynamic Vapor Sorption Systems use dynamic gas flow and the gravimetric technique to produce high-resolution adsorption and desorption isotherms of water and organic vapours. The system can be used on almost any solid material.

The collaboration will see SMS use PS’ extensive aftercare network in the US, enhancing its ability to service and support clients in the region. Furthermore, the companies will have co-distribution rights to market SMS’ products in China.

Daryl Williams, managing director and founder of SMS, commented: "This new relationship builds on both a business and product synergy between our two companies which will allow us to provide total instrumentation solutions for many new research and development sectors."

SMS and PS, a brand of Micromeritics Instrument Corporation, will also jointly organise academic meetings, symposia and training programmes to advance the development and adoption of particle and sorption technology.
