Canadian contractor Patheon has added small-scale aseptic vial filling capacity at its facility in Swindon in the UK in a bid to capture a greater share of the specialty products market.

Patheon said that the new service, which is designed for vials in the 2ml to 30ml range, was developed for the manufacture of low-volume products like orphan drugs and biologics.

Company CEO Wes Wheeler suggested that the ability to make specialty drug products with the lines used to produce Phase II and III trial batches “allows clients to commercialise their drugs much faster than would normally be expected."
