Thermo launches first electronic pipette with backlit display

By Emilie Reymond , 26-Sep-2006

Analytical instrument maker Thermo Electron has announced the introduction of the world's first electronic pipette with a backlit display to improve lab manual pipetting.

The new addition to the Finnpipette Novus range uses similar backlight technology to that of mobile phones.

This, according to Thermo, make the range more user friendly, improving productivity, precision and ergonomic operation.

The backlit display ensures that the high-resolution menu characters are shown with more clarity than before, by eliminating surrounding light reflections and improving contrast in low light conditions, the firm said.

With this new feature, Thermo is enhancing its electronic pipette range, which consists of flexible pipettes that combine comfort and functionality in ergonomic and lightweight designs.

The Finnpipette Novus has 10 different pipetting functions and nine pipetting speeds to choose from.

Thermo claims that each pipette has been designed to fit comfortably and securely to keep muscle strain to a minimum and its ergonomic design reduces the risk of repetitive strain injuries (RSIs) that are frequent with manual pipetting.

The firms also claims that with the backlight feature, the Finnpipette range offers outstanding performance, and can be used for routine manipulations as well as for quality conscious laboratories demanding a higher level of pipetting performance.
