Germany's Bayer Chemicals has set up a new procurement function on its corporate website that looks set to take a lot of the legwork out of finding the best supplier for the bulk ingredients it needs.

Using the new service, the company posts its requirements up on the site and waits for tender offers for suppliers to roll in. Suppliers who meet the requirements can enter their offer directly by clicking on the relevant product in the procurement portal.

At present, the company is looking for suppliers of a range of chemicals including 2-hydroxy methylcellulose, shellac and cocamide MEA, all of which are used as excipients in pharmaceuticals.
