Grants totalling £1.6m ($2.5m) were awarded by the Bioprocessing Research Industry Club (BRIC) to improve production of biologics. The university will run two projects using the funds, one to improve yields by understanding aggregation, the other to assess the predictability of protein production.
“These grant and studentship awards build on the previous BRIC funding successes and reflect the emergence of integrated industrial and academic research programmes in bioprocessing”, Professor Alan Dickson, said.
BRIC lists Lonza, Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline and Pall as members. Since forming in 2005 the organisation has granted more than £15m to bioprocessing and protein production research.
