A fire has disrupted operations at a generics manufacturing facility in Algeria run by Alembic Mami.

Indian drugmaker Alembic Pharmaceuticals informed the Bombay Stock Exchange Friday of a fire at a facility in Constantine, Algeria run by Alembic Mami, a joint venture with local pharma firm Adwiya Mami.

“The cause of accident and the extent of damage is being investigated and assessed. Though the fixed assets and inventories are covered under insurance policies and we do not expect a major adverse impact, we expect a disruption in operations till the plant is put back on stream,” the company said in the filing.

It added the fire had been brought under control and no casualties or injuries were reported.

In-Pharmatechnologist did not receive further comment from Alembic Mami or Alembic Pharmaceuticals which owns 49% of the joint venture.

The JV was formed in 2014 to aid the Indian drug maker in entering the Algerian market. When the generic medicine facility in Constantine opened in 2015 it became the first manufacturing presence outside India for Alembic.
