Pharm-Eco, part of Johnson Matthey Pharmaceutical Materials, is to build a catalytic process screening centre at its site in Massachusetts, US, that it claims should accelerate the development of production processes used for the manufacture of drugs for clinical trials.

The new centre is located at Pharm-Eco's Devens site and will make use of extensive automation technologies to speed up the development of new catalysts.

Services will include high throughput catalytic reaction screening, chiral catalytic transformations, hydrogenation, coupling reactions (Heck, Suzuki, amination, Sonogashira, carbonylation), selective oxidation, hydroformylation, and hydrosilylation.

The centre will also provide support to Pharm-Eco's medicinal chemistry and chemical development groups, with the aim of speeding up the small and large-scale synthesis of compounds and active pharmaceutical ingredients for clients.
