The company said the move would add capacity, although contract services projects will continue to be initiated, managed and co-ordinated by Malvern's in-house teams.
However, most samples will now be processed by particle characterisation experts at the ICPSE, using Malvern's systems. The company's analysers are used across a variety of industries, and in pharmaceuticals they feature from the start of the drug discovery process, through early method development stages, into manufacturing and through to final quality control.
The ICPSE was formed in 2003 to combine two research groups: the Institute of Particle Science & Engineering at Leeds and the department of chemical engineering at Sheffield University. The centre has a total full-time research base of more than 120 people.
