The company will use the blow-fill-seal machine in the production of ophthalmic drugs and sterile liquids for early-stage studies. Blow-fill-seal is particular useful in sterile liquid production as the products are formed, filled and sealed in a continuous process within a sterile enclosed area. That cuts down on the need for preservatives.
The company’s technical director, Nick Precious, said the investment fulfilled an “essential need,” as 85 per cent of the company’s medicines are now produced as preservative-free presentations.
