Canada’s Winpak has gained an exclusive license to use Reynolds Packaging’s manufacturing know-how in the production of packaging for the drug and healthcare industries.

The license, which covers both formulation information and drug master file (DMF) specifications for the Drug-Pak and Safety-Pak brands, ensures supply of the two products will be maintained in light of Reynolds’ 2008 decision to halt production.

Winpak CEO Bruce Berry told the Winnipeg Free Press that the agreement is "a big deal for us," adding that the firm had been in competition with several other companies interested in licensing the technology.

Berry stressed that the fact the packaging technology already meets the necessary regulatory standards will help Winpak save development costs and timelines.
