Heberprovac, a prostate cancer vaccine being developed at the Camaguey Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Centre has completed the initial phases of a clinical trial, according to the Cuban News Agency.
Cuba, which currently imports prostate cancer vaccines at a cost of around $750 per unit, hopes that if effective Heberprovac will replace these imports and may even become one of the few drugs that the country exports. The second phase of the clinical trial is due to begin at the Maria Curie Provincial Oncology Hospital in the next few months.
