Teva reported a 14 per cent fall in sales of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) in the fourth quarter of 2008, taking the total to $339m (€268m).

The fall was driven by a drop in internal API sales, which was a result of Teva’s product launches in the quarter relying upon external suppliers. In contrast, the fourth quarter of 2007 saw Teva launch an exclusive product in the US, for which the API was supplied internally.

Sales to external companies rose by 4 per cent to $146m.
