Corden Pharma has been fined and ordered to pay legal costs after it was prosecuted for health and safety offences following explosions at its facility in Little Island, Ireland, according to media reports.

The prosecution relates to the explosion of a barrel that was storing material from a failed attempt to make safe a quantity of tetrahydrofuran and magnesium waste, according to the Irish Times.

No one was injured and there was no impact on the environment, although the roof of the warehouse was damaged. A second explosion occurred five days later when a ball-bearing contained in a seal overheated, resulting in an explosion.

Corden was fined €7,000 ($10,300) and ordered to pay more than €6,000 in legal costs.
