Sigma-Aldrich has strengthened in Latin America by acquiring a Brazilian manufacturing and laboratory chemical supplier.

Acquiring all outstanding shares of Brazil-based Vetec Quimica Fina gives Sigma more than 3,000 products and expertise in qualification, purification and packaging of chemicals for manufacturing applications.

Vetec produces the chemicals from a site near Rio de Janeiro where it employs more than 200 people. Gaining a presence in Brazil allows Sigma to broaden its distribution in the country.

Eric Green, managing director, international at Sigma, said: “Vetec Quimica is part of Sigma-Aldrich's strategy to continue building a presence in the emerging markets and to leverage the economies afforded by producing and packaging products where our customers reside.”
