As part of the acquisition 55 Genentech employees will be offered employment at Gilead. The Oceanside, California facility produces biologics for preclinical through to Phase II and will initially supply Gilead with monoclonal antibody GS 6624.
"This acquisition represents a unique opportunity to establish Gilead's biologics process research and manufacturing capability while bringing on a team of employees with strong expertise”, Norbert Bischofberger, chief scientific officer at Gilead, said.
Genentech will retain its Oceanside commercial-scale manufacturing plant and other adjacent land.
