The technology uses the ultrasound circular cyclo-coagulation procedure to destroy ciliary bodies and lower intraocular pressure. EyeTechCare is conducting clinical trials using the device in Lyon, France and is aiming to launch the system in 2011.
To support these efforts EyeTechCare has received funding from Lyon-based SHAM, a first time investor, and Credit Agricole Private Equity.
Olivier Szymkowiak, head of investments at SHAM, said: “We were favourably impressed by the EyeTechCare team, whose innovative medical device should fill a major therapeutic void in the treatment of glaucoma.”
