The joint venture was established in January and paved the way for Teva to use Lonza’s biologics expertise to help it enter the biosimilars market.
Since the venture was initially setup the US has moved forward in its efforts to establish a regulatory pathway for follow-on biologics, which would open up a sizeable new market for generics manufacturers.
Speaking after the venture was initially announced Shlomo Yanai, Teva’s president and CEO, described biosimilars as “a major growth driver for Teva in our long-term strategy”.
