The commission explained that it “has reason to believe that the provisions of the EC Treaty prohibiting restrictive business practices and/or the abuse of a dominant market position may have been infringed.”
The three firms confirmed that the raids had taken place, with Sanofi telling AFP that it would co-operate with the commission.
Anti-competitive practices within the pharmaceutical industry have been the subject of a EC scrutiny since January 2008 when a raids were carried out at a number of leading European drugmakers.
