MedImmune, Perlegen Sciences, NexMed and Eden Biodesign have all had people on the move in the world of pharmaceutical manufacturing.

MedImmune is the big pharma name making recruitment waves this week, announcing seven new promotions and new hires to reflect the firm's "new role as the global biologics unit of AstraZeneca."

Timothy Hahn has joined the company as the new vice president of antibody manufacturing, bringing experience from over 15 years in cell culture and live virus manufacturing at Merck & Co.

Hahn will be responsible for the firm's antibody production strategy, including overall operations at MedImmune's new cell culture facility in Frederick, Maryland, as well as the existing sites in Frederick and Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

Timothy Maines is also joining the firm as vice president of corporate quality assurance, responsible for ensuring continuous improvement of the company's quality assurance programme and compliance with internal and governmental regulations and guidelines.

Maines joins the firm from GTC Biotherapeutics where he served as vice president of corporate quality, and Stryker where he head of QA.

Alexander Zukiwski has also come to the company as senior VP clinical development, in addition to the four internal promotions the company announced this week.

Jonathan Klein-Evans has been promoted to vice president of intellectual property, Timothy Pearson becomes VP and CFO, Paul Williams is the new VP of sales, and Max Donley has been promoted to VP, human resources.

US firm Perlegen Sciences has added three new names to its senior operations team. Jeff Otto, Ellen Beasley and Keith Joho were named as the new additions to the company last week.

Otto will join the company this month as vice president of production operations, coming most recently from Sequenom, and previous senior positions at Genaissance Pharmaceuticals.

Beasley will become vice president of project management, moving from her former senior position at Celera, and Joho becomes the firm's chief information officer.

Drug delivery technology specialist NexMed has appointed a new COO in the form of Hem Pandya.

Pandya took on the newly created position at the end of October, reporting to the firm's CEO, Vivian Liu. Although most recently chief commercial officer for a veterinary pharmaceutical company, Pandya previously held positions at Andrx Pharmaceuticals, Able Laboratories and Ivax Pharmaceuticals among others.

UK biomanufacturing and development firm Eden Biodesign has appointed Robert Lias as president of the company's US operations.

Lias' role will include identifying and establishing strategic business partnerships and expanding the company's offering to the US biopharmaceutical sector.

Lias joins the company from Cytovance Biologics, having also held positions in firms such as KBI BioPharma, Diosynth and Lonza Biologics.
