The Pakistani pharmaceutical industry is aiming to export $500m worth of products by 2013, according to the Pakistan Observer, an increase of 500 per cent on current levels.

Kashif Sajjad Sheikh, chairman of the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, said this was achievable if the government clamped down on producers of spurious drugs in local market.

Sheikh explained that these operators damaged the legitimate industry’s reputation and said his association would back government attempts to rectify the situation.
