GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) must hand over emails from researchers studying birth defects allegedly caused by Paxil (paroxetine) after a district judge refused to block a family’s request to see the documents.

The family is suing GSK and alleging that the company, which funded the birth-defect research, attempted to protect itself from lawsuits by influencing the study’s results, according to the district judge.

However, the judge did deny the family access to raw data from the study. GSK is facing about 600 cases in the US relating to allegations of Paxil caused birth defects, according to Bloomberg.

The first of these trials is just starting.
