Bristol-Myers Squibb (B-MS) is continuing to sell divisions, with the latest deal offloading its Indonesian unit and product rights to Japan-based Taisho Pharmaceutical for $310m (€211m).

In recent years B-MS has sold assets, such as its Japan over the counter (OTC) business, as it attempts to focus its business on the creation of innovative medicines. The big pharma took another step in this plan when it sold the rights to distribute some medicines to Sigma Pharmaceuticals.

Taisho believes the acquisition will make it “possible to enter into the Asian OTC drug business in earnest”. Furthermore, the company plans to make B-MS’ manufacturing facilities its future production centre in Asia.
