Actavis buys packaging firm to cut lead times & freight costs

05-Dec-2011

Actavis has bought Netherlands-based PharmaPack to cut its tablet packaging lead times and freight costs.

PharmaPack provides pharma and biotech packaging services from its base in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands. Actavis expects owning PharmaPack to help with tablets it buys from third-party manufacturers.

The lead times are sometimes between six and nine months and therefore much too long. With the acquisition of PharmaPack International we are able to reduce these lead times by more than 50 per cent”, Claudio Albrecht, chairman and CEO of Actavis, said.

PharmaPack will also perform bulk packaging of drugs Actavis produces at its plant in Alathur, India.
